I grew up in Columbus North Carolina. it’s a small town of 3000 people in Western North Carolina. I left for college at the Citadel after graduation and never lived at home again. I’ve lived all over South Carolina for most of the years since.
While at the Citadel I played football all four years. during my sophomore season, a local pastor became the chaplain of our team. He started studying the Bible with us and then invited me to be a counselor at a summer Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp in Black Mountain North Carolina. Reluctantly, I agreed. While there, I had the opportunity to lead a young camper to Christ only to realize that I had never surrendered my life to Jesus. Jesus captured my heart the same night and saved to me. I struggled spiritually over the next year and a half until God brought a guy on staff with Campus Outreach into my life. He discipled me over the next few years teaching me how to pray, how to study the Bible and how to share my faith.
Currently I am the Owner/Operator of a restaurant. My primary roles are to grow the business and to grow leaders. I spend an inordinate amount of time coaching my leaders, recruiting new leaders and equipping people to grow themselves and those that they lead.
I spent 4.5 years on staff with Campus Outreach at the Citadel and Coastal Carolina. I love college ministry. However, I am far more excited about being an Elder and ministering in that capacity than I ever was discipling young men on the college campus. I believe the local church is God’s primary vehicle for his kingdom to grow. Many of those students left college and struggled to get plugged in to a local body of believers and, as a result, struggled to walk with God. I have a passion for helping people to learn to practically walk with God on a day to day basis. I love helping people to find the value of transparency and authenticity in community and to understand the power of making the gospel personal in every day life.
One final passion is family. I love my family. The only thing I enjoy more than being a dad is being a husband (even though it is the hardest thing I’ve ever done). Claire and I enjoy spending time with engaged couples working through premarital counseling as well as loving on “veteran” married couples.
