500 Years Later: A Roman Catholic and Protestant Dialogue

On October 31st, 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door the Wittenberg Church door, decrying the abuses and hawking of indulgences in Germany. What he began by that fateful act neither he nor anyone else could have foreseen. It entailed both a massive schism and massive reform within the Western Church. Five hundred years later, what are we to make of the Reformation?

In this dialogue we considered the two most controversial distinctives of the Protestant Reformation – Sola Fide and Sola Scriptura – in light of some of recent dialogues and ecumenical developments.

Speakers: Rev. C. Alexander “Sandy” McDonald, Vicar for Ecumenical and Inter-religious Affairs, and Rev. James Walden, Pastor of Riverside Community Church.
